SINGING TO HER OWN TUNE

It is not often in music that you find a singer with as much drive as talent, but for 24-year-old up and coming songstress Yashi, that needle in a haystack has been found in her. With a name that professes that of being respectful and good, her honest voice; full of raw emotion and heart stirring abilities, is destined to become one recognized in her time. Through a hard work ethic, a strong base, and her quirky individual style, Yashi is ready for the rest of the world to follow her tune.

Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, a place known for its long-standing contributions to the essence of real music, Yashi is a self-taught vocalist.  Only discovering she could sing at the age of 12, her voice lessons included matching the tones and escalating notes of those she heard on the radio and watched on T.V. While her voice grew strong and increased in range so did her ability to win track races.  Hailing from an athletically inclined family Yashi initially thought she found her niche in track and field.  Winning championships and progressing into a track star sprinter she was convinced that her athletic family genes had decided her path in life, until singing became all that she could think about.

Taught early on the importance of putting effort into what you believe in and want to accomplish, Yashi’s mind was made up after her junior year in college.  Although leaving the track for a stage was at first a hard decision, her passion for music kept her focused.  While finishing out her degree, she began seizing all opportunities to work through her passion.  With some trials and tribulations making her stronger, Yashi admits her drive to make it has brought her into opportunities that have drawn the hopes of many other music hopefuls.

“I wanted to do anything and everything that revolved around signing, including twice auditioning for American Idol and even for the Pussy Cat Dolls. Even though I didn’t make the cut, it definitely only fueled my drive to make it more.”

Inspired by great singers that include Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, and Al Greene, her sound is full of gift. Having already worked with some of the industry's leading producers and writing teams, which include: Big Drawz ,who have previously pined hits for Destiny's Child and Trey Songz, Nicci Gilbert of Grammy-nominated Brownstone; Rufus Blaq who has written for Faith Evans and Salt -n- Pepa; Dwight "Skrapp" Reynolds who has scribed for Whitney Houston, and Grammy winner Jim Jonsin, her signature sound is intact and ready for the masses. With her new single "If I Had My Way" set to drop, Yashi is proving she is doing it her way making her dreams become reality.
